What the call covers
Half an hour, usually. You describe the work you are trying to get done and where it currently breaks down; we say what we think is achievable, roughly what it would take, and which parts we would leave alone. Where we think automation is the wrong answer, we say so on the call rather than after a proposal.
Nothing is prepared in advance and nothing is billed. You do not need a specification or a settled budget to have the conversation — a clear description of the problem is enough. If it becomes a project, scoping it properly is separate work we would agree with you afterwards.
