How we work

How we work

A clear, accountable delivery process - from honest discovery through iterative build to a clean handover, with human oversight throughout.

Good software is the product of a good process. Ours is designed to reduce risk early, keep you in control, and leave you with something you can rely on and maintain.

Most projects fail not because the technology is impossible, but because the wrong thing gets built, scope drifts, or no one can maintain the result. We work to remove those failure modes deliberately: we invest in understanding the problem before writing code, we show working software early and often, and we design every system to be owned and extended by your team rather than depended on indefinitely.

The same principles apply whether we are building a small internal tool or a full platform. We isolate AI behind clear interfaces, design human review into anything consequential, and keep behaviour observable through testing and logging. The aim is simple: software you understand, can trust, and are never locked out of.

Process

From idea to running system

  1. 01

    Discovery

We map the problem, constraints, data and success criteria, and agree what “good” looks like before any code is written.

  2. 02

    Architecture & plan

We propose an architecture that isolates AI behind clear interfaces, with validation and human review designed in, plus a sequenced, costed plan.

  3. 03

    Build & test

We build iteratively with automated tests and regular checkpoints, so you see progress and can steer as we go.

  4. 04

    Review & oversight

Anything consequential gets a human-in-the-loop control point, with guardrails, logging and clear escalation paths.

  5. 05

    Handover & support

We document, deploy and hand over source and infrastructure, with an agreed arrangement for maintenance and improvements.

Commitments

What you can expect

01

Clear scope

Documented requirements and acceptance criteria, so everyone agrees what is being built.

02

Honest estimates

Indicative effort and cost up front, refined as scope is confirmed.

03

You own it

Our default is to hand over code, documentation and infrastructure so you are never locked out.

04

No lock-in by stealth

Model-agnostic, interface-isolated builds you can maintain and extend.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do engagements usually start?

Almost always with a focused discovery conversation. Before committing to a build we want to understand the problem, your constraints and what success actually looks like. For larger or less-defined ideas, a short paid discovery engagement produces a documented scope, a proposed architecture and an honest estimate you can act on - with or without us.

How do you estimate cost and time?

We give indicative effort and cost up front, then refine them as scope is confirmed during discovery. We would rather present a realistic range and explain the assumptions behind it than quote a precise number we cannot stand behind. If something looks likely to balloon, we will tell you early.

Will we be able to see progress along the way?

Yes. We build iteratively with regular checkpoints, so you see working software rather than status reports. That gives you the chance to steer while changes are still cheap, and it keeps the final result aligned with what you actually need.

Who owns the code and the IP?

Ownership and licensing are agreed in the contract, and our default is to hand over source code, documentation and infrastructure notes so your team is never locked out of its own software. We build model-agnostic, interface-isolated systems specifically so you can maintain, extend or move them later.

What happens after launch?

We document and hand over, and we offer an agreed arrangement for maintenance, monitoring and improvements if you want it. AI-assisted software in particular benefits from ongoing attention as dependencies move and data shifts - but the choice of how much support to take is always yours.

Can you work with our existing team and codebase?

Often, yes. We are comfortable collaborating with in-house developers and picking up existing systems. For inherited codebases we start with a short technical review to understand the risks before proposing whether to extend, refactor or selectively rebuild.

What if AI turns out not to be the right approach?

Then we will say so - ideally during discovery, before significant money is spent. Recommending a simpler solution, or none at all, is part of working honestly. Our goal is the right outcome for your situation, not the largest possible project.
